Quarantines Are Not Good For My Budget

Hi all! Long time no see. What have you been doing during this quarantine? Me? I've been SPENDING MONEY. Ugh. I was doing so good and then here comes Covid 19 with it's stress, and prolonged stay at home orders, and the resultant cabin fever and next thing you know I'm shopping online. I've broken all my rules. I bought fabric, I bought eyeshadow when Melt had their reopening sale, I bought books, I bought a new outfit, I bought a new sewing machine (which is fabulous, but more on that later.) With all my plans being cancelled, the salons closed, and nothing fun on the horizon it's been really hard to talk myself out of buying things. I've decided that today I have to reign it in and restart my no buy ... Again. Same rules, new start/end date. From Memorial Day 2020 to Memorial Day 2021 I will (hopefully) find no further excuses to spend loads of money for no apparent reason on things I really don't need anyway.
Now let's talk about that sewing machine

I've wanted a vintage sewing machine for a long time. Sewing machines are one of those things that are just better when they're older. The older machines are all metal, can sew through just about anything, and they were built to last lifetimes. Unfortunately, I was having trouble locating one locally. Then all of a sudden, this beauty popped up on Facebook marketplace. She's a 1947 Singer 66 and you can tell someone loved her as she's been very well taken care of. I have seen videos on YouTube of this model sewing through layers of denim so -I cleaned her up, oiled her, and adjusted her tension and she sews like a dream. We should be making projects together for years to come. I'm really excited about it.
Quarantine hasn't been all bad. I've been finishing projects, working out, cleaning the house, and catching up on some reading. My husaband's been home so when he can get away from work for a bit we've been having a little extra family time. I'm planning to paint and do some redecorating in the living room. In my next post I'll show you a few of the things that I've made while we've been staying home!
